“You must account for Alamieyeseigha stolen loot”Senate tells Lamorde

The Senate has insisted on probing  the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde over an alleged diversion of recovered stolen funds amounting to N1trillion.

Lamorde was invited by the Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions committee following a petition written by one Mr. George Uboh alleging that  Lamorde diverted the sum of 1 trillion naira being stolen money  recovered from a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and former Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun.

The EFCC boss, according to Uboh diverted the recovered stolen funds when he was the agency’s Director of Operations between 2003 and 2007, and when he was acting Chairman of the commission in 2008.

The invitation of Lamorde has created a sharp division at the Upper chamber with the PDP caucus chaired by Godswill Akpabio and three others faulting the probe.

But while addressing newsmen Tuesday, the Chairman of Senate Committee on ethics, Privileges and Public petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said there was no going back on the probe of the EFCC boss,  saying they have the constitutional right to do so.

He also denied the report that Lamorde was being probed following the agency’s of Saraki’s wife by the Commission weeks ago.
