Yes, there is corruption in the House of Reps-Jibrin

The ousted Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has dropped a bombshell! He has said that the House of Representatives padded the budget, which he insists on calling inserted, a whopping N280billion into the 2016 document.

Speaking  in an interview on Channels TV programme, Sunday Politics, Jibrin said that the art of insertion was constitutional but he believed that what was inserted was senseless.

Describing how the practice is carried out, Jibrin  who was recently removed as the Chairman, Appropriation Committee said the method  had to do with replacing projects already with ones brought by members without the input of the executive arm.

He also confirmed the allegation by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the National Assembly is populated by corrupt elements.

Jibrin said there was what he called institutional corruption in the House of Representatives.

However, Jubrin, who accused the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and three other principal officers of the House of padding the 2016 budget to the tune of over N400bn, said he had never taken part in any corrupt practice since 2011 that he had been in the National Assembly.

Asked by the presenter if the National Assembly was populated by corrupt  people, Jibrin said, “There is corruption; I would rather say there is corruption in the House of Representatives. Not only that there is corruption, there is institutional corruption and these are things that I can also prove and these are all the second layer of what my struggle is going to be about.”
