Why I went on voluntary retirement-Customs boss, Abdullahi Dikko Inde

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko Inde has revealed that he went on voluntary retirement to allow the young ones in the agency prove their mettle.

Speaking to Correspondents yesterday at the State House after a meeting with the President, Mr Dikko in giving reason for his decision to leave noted “The time I’m leaving is the time I feel those young ones that have developed the software can come up and manage the software. So, that is basically the reason and I’m sending out this signal to all those who have stayed put. Don’t stay until they ask you to go. When you feel you have done so much and you believe in the system you have built, then why do you stay? Why don’t you be an umpire? Stay by the side and watch and advise”

The former Customs boss whose voluntary retirement was accepted and announced by the Presidency yesterday revealed that he was not afraid of the Federal Government’s ongoing investigation into alleged non-remittance of revenues by all the relevant agencies in the country.

Inde said the revenue generated by the NCS appreciated by 20 percent from when he took over as Comptroller-General .He added that he was proud of the organisation he was leaving behind because it has become more efficient and professional

Born on May 11, 1960, Inde who is from Katsina State like the current President became Comptroller-General of Customs on August 17, 2009.
