War in Kano: Kwakwanso, Ganduje battle deepens

If anybody had told former Kano State Governor, now Senator Rabiu Kwaknwanso that just three months down the line he would have a bitter feud with his anointed successor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, he would have laughed it off.

Well, that is the situation in Kano as Governor Ganduje has started asserting his authority by reversing some policies put in place by the Kwankwanso-led government where he served as Deputy Governor.

Just last week, the State sacked 2000 sweepers which it said was a drain on its resources and also revoked the  permit issued to occupiers of shops around the Sani Abacha Stadium. Of course  an unhappy Kwakwanso questioned the rationale for the action especially when it was budgeting N180million for  the building of an official residence for the Deputy Governor.

Senator Kwankwanso also vowed to expose the stewardship of the Governor while he was his deputy. Well, Ganguje has not taken this lying down, he has come out firing on all cylinders, lambasted Kwankwanso for misapplication of funds and not funding the tuition of Kano students studying abroad.

Speaking during the visit of General Association of Northern Students, based in Egypt, Governor Ganduje stated

“For one year, Kwankwaso did not pay a single kobo as tuition fee for our students studying abroad.

“Right now, Kano State government owes those students N3 billion, and painfully, our revenue is dwindling and we would be cautious in handling the situation”.

He blamed the Kwankwanso-led administration for distorting the scholarship programme and also wondered why despite the fact that millions of dollars were allocated, the payment was not made.

“I’ve decided to let the cat out of the bag so that, as educated people, you would understand where your problems lies”.He added for emphasis.
