Ukpabi Asika’s wife dies at 76

Dr. (Mrs) Chinyere Asika,  the wife of the late Administrator of East Central State, Ajie Ukpabi Asika is dead! Family sources revealed that the late recipient of the National Honour of  Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR)  and mother of Obi Asika, entertainment entrepreneur and President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Assistant on Social Media, Obi  Asika concluded her earthly sojourn earlier today.

Though the source of death is yet unknown, her passing will be very devastating to her immediate family, especially her three children who marked the 10th anniversary of their father’s death last year (September 2014).

 

Dr. (Mrs.) Chinyere Edith Ukpabi Asika (nee Ejiogu) was the Senior Special Assistant to Presidential Olusegun Obasanjo on New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) and has been a Non-Executive  Director of Zenith Bank since  October 9, 2012.

She  graduated from Mills College Oakland in 1964 with B.A. in Government with minor in Social Anthropology and obtained a Masters Degree (Library Science & Information Technology) in 1965 from the University of California. She has worked as an Assistant Liberian, University of Ibadan between 1965 and 1967.

Mrs. Asika is an accomplished scholar and an advocate of women empowerment. She is involved in a lot of national development initiatives. She was the Chairman, National Working Group of Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), a non-governmental organization. She has several years experience in Management Consulting, Board and Corporate Governance. She was conferred with the National Honour Award as Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in recognition of her contribution to the country. She has several years of work experience and has served in various capacities including Project Director of Multivar Systems, a firm for techno-economic Consultancy and is presently a Director with Dibueze Integrated Services Limited.

Mrs. Asika is a founder of numerous organizations including – Founder of Global Organization for Women Empowerment (GOWEM), Patron, Nigerian Girls Guide and is a life Fellow of Agriculture Graduates of Nigeria (AGAN). Mrs. Asika graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, United States of America and has received several academic awards to her honour including: (a) Honorary Doctorate degree by the Commonwealth University, Belize and (b) African Scholarship Programme in American Universities, Mills College, Oakland, California

The late Mrs. Asika died at the age of 76 while her husband who died in 2004, left at the age of 68.
