Udom commits Akwa Ibom to God…makes key appointments

Two days after his swearing in, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has indicated that he will lead a God-fearing administration when he hosted a powerful thanksgiving and re dedication service.

The event held on the grounds of the Ibom Hall, Uyo was attended by popular Christian leaders

The soul-lifting ceremony which unfolded amidst praises and prayers was also attended by immediate past governor of the state, Obong Godswill Akpabio and wife, Ekaette.

gathered momentum when the new First Lady, Mrs. Martha Udom danced into the venue accompanied by many gaily dressed women. She was joined at the arena by the immediate past Governor and wife.

But proceedings took off with the arrival of Governor Emmanuel who exchanged pleasantries with many on the front row including his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo.

There was a sermon by famous man of God Pastor Uma Ukpai and then special prayers were rendered by Prelate Emeritus Sunday Mbang who reminded those who lost out at the elections that leadership is bestowed by God.

He committed the new Governor, his family and administration to God.

Like a man truly led by the spitit, Governor Udom began his own prayer session with the popular chorus “Kabiyosi”. Then he asked if there was any Pastor in the audience, not an usher that had anointing oil or holy water. He was handed a bottle of Holy water

He then told the congregation that as Governor he was the Spiritual head of the state and therefore it was important to handover the state to God.

He prayed for divine direction and wisdom, while binding all forces of darkness that may pull the state backwards.

It was a very joyous atmosphere afterwards as guests danced and were merry.The day was rounded off with a reception The the Government House Banquet Hall.

Meanwhile, a few hours later, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in his determined effort to carry out his agenda and to reposition the machinery of government has announced the appointment of aides to fill key positions in his administration. 

The Executive Governor shall henceforth become the Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (FGPC).

The Chief of Staff to the immediate past Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, Mr. Etekamba Umoren has been appointed the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

A retired Permanent Secretary, Government House, Uyo, a graduate of University of Benin and a Knight of John Wesley, Umoren is a seasoned technocrat who has attended different courses overseas. 

Pastor Bassey Umoh, was appointed Permanent Secretary, Governor’s Office. Until his appointment, he was Auditor-General of Local Government. 

Mr. Ekerete Udoh, the immediate past Director of Media and Publicity for the Udom/Moses Campaign Organization, 2015, was appointed Senior Special Assistant (Media) and Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Udoh who is a holder of B.A (Political Science and Journalism), Queens College, City University of New York and M.A (Political Science) Special Concentrations in International Relations and Comparative Politics, Brooklyn College, City University of New York. A former columnist with Sunday Concord, Thisday, Vanguard, Editor of Hints magazine and Publisher of The Diasporan Star, New York; Udoh has spent over 28 years in journalism profession.

Mr. Aniekpeno Mkpanang, Permanent Secretary (Protocol) in the immediate past government, is the new Permanent Secretary, Special Services Department, (SSD). Mr. Edmond Uffang was appointed Protocol Chief.

A graduate of Yaba College of Technology, Uffang is a successful businessman and protocol consultant. Pastor Daniel Akwatang was appointed the Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Religious Affairs. 

The Executive Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel wishes the newly appointed aides the very best in the discharge of their responsibilities.
