Two Expatriates, School owner abducted in Akwa Ibom

The relative peace in Akwa Ibom State was broken over the weekend with the report that gunmen have kidnapped two white men from their hotel room in Eket, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. In a separate incident, pricate polytechnic owner, Dr. Idongesit Udom was also kidnapped on his way to church.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chukwu Okechukwu, confirmed the incident to Punch correspondent in Uyo on Monday.

Okechukwu said the two white men were kidnapped in the early hours of Monday from their hotel room.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Awunah, on Monday morning led a team of senior police officers to Eket and its environs towards rescuing the white men.

He said the police were also working to ensure the release of Sure Foundation Polytechnic proprietor, Dr. Idongesit Udom, who was also kidnapped on Sunday at Ukanafun Local Government Area on his way to church (Qua Iboe Church, Idung Nneke).

“We are aware of the incident. I am assuring you that efforts are in top gear to rescue them.

“As I am talking to you, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Awunah, and some senior police officers are on ground here at Eket and its environs searching for the two white men and the man from Ukanafun,” he said.

He added that the police had yet to ascertain the workplace and country of origin of the abducted white men.
