Sullivan Chime Set For War Against House of Assembly

Irked by the controversy trailing the purported concession agreement between the Enugu state government and a private firm on water supply within Enugu metropolis, members of the State House of Assembly on Thursday halted any further action on the concession agreement billed to take effect from this Friday pending the conclusion of its ongoing investigation into the matter.

The development may have set both the state government and the legislature on the war-path with about two months to the end of Governor Sullivan Chime’s second term in office.

Though the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Michael Nwachukwu had dismissed some controversial claims on the project as false and misleading, the House of Assembly during its plenary still went ahead to bar him and the Managing Director of the Water Corporation, Mr. Chibuzor Aka from any further action on the matter till further notice.

Also on Thursday, the legislators passed a motion barring the state commissioner for education, Prof. C. Okolo and the executive chairman of the Enugu state Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) from awarding any new contract pending the conclusion of their investigations into alleged faulty contracts execution and improper supervision of the management of primary schools as reported by its committee on education.
