Rotary Club Of Ikoyi Metro donates books,other materials in Accra, Ghana

Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metropolitan, Nigeria and its partner club, Rotary Club of Accra East, Ghana recently put smiles on the faces of many students with the donation of books and other educational materials.
According to the President, Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro, Laurine Ubanozie, the trip to Ghana was part of the Club’s yearly projects in line with its objective of supporting basic education and literacy.
On arrival in Ghana, the members of Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metropolitan and their colleagues from Rotary Club of Accra East led by its President, Dinah Bonzie headed to the Institute of Islamic School for a joint presentation of the materials.
A large entourage of Rotarians and Rotaractors made the trip to the school and they were warmly received by a happy and appreciative School management. In her address, Pacesetter President Laurine Ubanozie outlined the importance of encouraging a reading culture among our youths and the need to put the donated books and materials to proper use by the school.
The School’s Head Teacher was full of praise for Rotarians especially those from Nigeria for the wonderful gesture. He promised that they will put the books into good use and also used the opportunity to invite Rotarians to participate in the institution’s forth-coming anniversary scheduled for later this year.
Next on the line-up of activities was the visit to Kanda Cluster Schools. There, the Rotarians were welcome by the students with Rotary songs which created an atmosphere of conviviality before the main event began.
Speaking at the occasion, Rtn Dinah Bondzie, President, Rotary Club of Accra East informed all present that the donations that were to be presented was a joint effort and that both clubs now have a long established tradition of  uniting to impact communities in their respective countries. She also emphasized the need for the reawakening of the reading culture.
In her remarks, President of Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metropolitan re-emphasized the need to improve reading and writing culture of the students and harped on the need to replace books with social media addiction among youths.
Present at the book donation was the Supervising Officer of Education for the Kanda zone, who appealed to Rotarians to look at the other schools within the premises to avoid jealousy and discontent
He stated that he had observed that Rotarians were only donating materials to the same school every year. President of RC Accra East, Dinah Bondzie responded that his observation was noted and will be put into consideration next time the Clubs were embarking on similar projects.
