Rivers: Police declares Wike’s main man wanted

The Nigeria Police Force has given reason as to why it declared an ally of Rivers State Governor, Mr. Ezewon Nyesom Wike, wanted.

The Force on Wednesday declared Mr. Sobomabo Jackrich, a.k.a Egberipapa, Caretaker Committee Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers, wanted, saying the step was a result of the violence in his area.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Operations, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, told journalists in Port Harcourt that the CTC Chairman was declared wanted following the discovery of arms in his residence.

Jackrich, a former militant leader who embraced the Federal Government’s amnesty before he was appointed the CTC Chairman by the State Governor, Wike, had on Wednesday on a radio bulletin, denied connivance in the violence ravaging Asari Toru council.

Prior to the 2015 general election, Wike, then as the Supervisory Minister of Education, made a crucial visit to the ex-warlord who is founder/leader of the Kengema Unity Forum, KUF, at his palatial Usokun residence in Degema Local government Area of Rivers state.

Wakama said measures had been put in place to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during and after the rerun elections scheduled for 19 March.

The DIG, who hails from Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State and was deployed to Rivers for the state and National Assembly rerun elections, explained that the Nigeria Police Force saddened by the “tragic and senseless” killings in the state had vowed that anybody, no matter how highly placed who has a case to answer would be turned in.

He promised that the police would stop at nothing to bring those fomenting trouble in the state to book, adding that none of the culprits would be allowed to go scot-free.
