The Rise, Fall and Rise of Dapo Abiodun

Lagos businessman, Dapo Abiodun used to be one of those rising stars in the city and in the social circuit. All was going well until it all fell apart like a pack of cards.

He was having the greatest moment of his life when he began to struggle, wading through the thick forest of disappointments and challenges but today those dark days have now given way to bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Those who know reveal to us that in the last few years, Dapo has turned into a cat with nine lives. His Company Heyden Petroleum which began as a diesel distribution outfit fell into very hard times. Things were so bad that it was heavily in debt.

It is often said that when bad times rains, it pours and for Abiodun it came in torrents. It was around the same time that he was hit by health challenges which even led to a partial stroke. As a result of this condition, he was in and out of the hospital and had to relocate to the UK for many months.

Of course, this health situation meant that his business suffered even a greater deal, and his marriage was under threat too. As if that was not enough just when he was recovering, he had a domestic accident. He slipped and fell off the staircase at home and broke a few bones. His case was really terrible.

But like that proverbial cat, he survived it all. It is said that tough times never last but tough people do, this seems to fit this gentleman well.

First, his health began to take shape and then his business picked up. He became President, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN)-and with that muscle he became a bigger player in the oil industry. His company got the fuel import licence-and has been involved in the lucrative oil importation business.

Though his alleged closeness to the Petroleum Minister has set tongues wagging, Abiodun has kept mum over the allegations, brushing off the stories with a smile. He is certainly on the rise. Not only is he enjoying the best of health again, his business is booming too. Things are really looking upward and he is doing so well that close sources reveal that he is getting ready to join politics and is indeed set to run for a Senatorial seat in Ogun State!
