Rafael Nadal Ends Season After Shock Loss to Teenager, Coric in Basel

Current World Number 3, Rafael Nadal has called it quits for this season and will be heading for surgery on November 3, 2014 after he was beaten by 17 year-old  Croatian, Borna Coric.

Coric achieved the biggest win of his career, taking advantage of a rare, off day in their Swiss Indoors Basel quarter-final on Friday. The World No. 3, playing his first tournament since being diagnosed with appendicitis in Shanghai, was unable to fend off the 17 year old, who won 6-2, 7-6(4).

“It’s unbelievable for me,” said the young Croat after the win. “I just want to enjoy the moment. I’m just so surprised and it’s an unbelievable feeling.”

Nadal 28, a 14-time Grand Slam title winner stated after the match “I’m not going to Paris and London – I’m not competitive enough,”I am going to have surgery on 3 November.”
