PDP Makes u-turn, Voids Ag. Governor Fintiri’s Disqualification

In an apparent fear that the acting governor of Adamawa state, Ahmed Umaru Fintiri could defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC) and contest the October 11 by election in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday made a complete u turn by voiding the disqualification made against him    by the Screening Panel led by Senator Ibrahim Mantu.

It was gathered that the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu and some Presidency officials were furious when the news of Fintiri’s disqualification and immediately directed that the decision should be voided.
This was as a result of a palpable fear that the acting governor would be heading straight to APC, where the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar have assured him of the party’s ticket.

Mantu’s committee had Saturday disqualified the acting governor, citing section 191 (2) of the 1999 constitution for the disqualification of Governor Fintiri from participating in the September 6 governorship primary election in Adamawa state.
In Fintiri’s petition to the Appeal Committee led by Senator James Manager,  the acting governor argued that Section 191 (2) of the 1999 constitution was erroneously applied to him.
