Ogun assures indigenes of more social amenities,to boost IGR through Tourism


The Ogun State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to continuously embark on projects that will boost socio –economic activities of the its indigenes especially rural dwellers across the State.

The State Deputy Governor, who doubles as Commissioner for Ministry of Rural Development, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga gave this indication during the grand finale of the 29th Esure – Ijebu Day, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the State.

Mrs. Onanuga emphasised that Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led Administration was committed to the provision of basic amenities such as potable water, good roads, electricity that would make life more meaningful for the rural dwellers and also reduce rural – urban drift.

“Our plan is to develop our rural areas to an enviable standard, make life more meaningful for our people in the rural areas even as we embark on renewal of the urban centres” she remarked.

The Deputy Governor congratulated the Monarch, Oba Dr. Sansi, Jandu II, the Obelu of Esure Ijebu, the Otunbas, Community Development Associations (CDAs), and the entire Esure Community for the celebration and urged them to continually support Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief (Mrs.) Olufolake Ogunsola called on Esure people at home and in diaspora to come home and contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the community, urging them to work together in unity to achieve the  community set goals.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Adedayo Adeneye has emphasised the need for a good working relationship between his Ministry and that of Culture and Tourism in order to enhance the abundant resources available in the tourism sector to boost the economy of the State.

This assurance was given at the maiden edition of Miss Tourism Ogun, a contest organised to showcase beauty and talent among students of Tertiary institutions across the 20 Local Government Areas in the State, held in Ota, Ogun State.

The Commissioner pointed out that a merger of tourism and beauty pageantry would foster socio-economic development of the State and also boost the entertainment industry in the Country.

Adeneye who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Ibikunle Onasanya said it became imperative to start harnessing the various tourism potentials across the State such as the famous Olumo Rock, Igbo Lisabi in Abeokuta, Bilikisu Sugbo Shrine, Yemoji natural Swimming Pool in Ijebu Ode without leaving out Oroona in Ilaro and Osuuru Spring in Imeko among other cultural and traditional sites through which eco-tourism can thrive.

Concerted efforts have been put in place by the present administration through the rehabilitation of our tourist centres spread across the three senatorial districts in order to attract foreign investors to the State.The Ministry of Information and Strategy will therefore begin collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to improve the various potentials in the area of culture and tourism to increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and number of visitors to the State.” He remarked.

Speaking in the same vein, the Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Bashorun Muyiwa Oladipo stressed that Ogun State is blessed with various talents as well as endowed with mineral resources, which if maximally harnessed would boost the socio – economic resources of the State. Oladipo also commended the organisers of the event and assured of the State Government’s readiness to boost, sustain and promote tourism which is fast becoming a major investment opportunity all over the world.

Highpoint of the event was the beauty and intellectual competition among the 20 contestants selected across the 20 Local Government areas of the State.

At the end of the keenly contested show, the first runner-up was Miss Adeola Adefuye who represented Ifo Local Government, while the second runner-up was Miss Damilola Damson from Iperu.

The overall winner of Miss Tourism Ogun 2015 was Miss Ayoola Akinlawon from Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government area of the State.

In his key note address, the organiser of the event, Mr. Oladapo Olalekan appreciated the State Government for its  immense contribution and support towards the successful hosting of the first edition of the event.
