Nigerian woman delivers baby after rescue from pirate ship

A Nigerian woman, Stephanie Samuel has been delivered of a baby girl just hours after her sinking pirate ship, filled with immigrants, was rescued by the Italian Navy.

The Lady who revealed that she had embarked on the dangerous journey from Libya in search of greener pastures stated that she was thankful for being rescued and thanked God that her baby was fine.

The delivery itself was dramatic. We gathered that as she was asked by the medical team to push, prayers emanated from all corners of the ship, as other immigrants watched in awe. When she eventually was delivered of the baby, claps and cheers erupted on the Naval ship.

The mother insisted that she would call her baby, Gift, because she was a precious gift from God, but the crew named her Francesca Marina after their ship.

Baby gift is the sixth baby to be born on a navy vessel since 2013, one of which arrived on Christmas Day last year.

The girl and her Nigerian mother were said to be in good health on the ship, which was hosting 654 migrants saved in four separate operations since Sunday. And more are still on the way according to reports with most of them running away from the war and strife in the Middle East.
