NDLEA storms Arik Air, searches office, suspect’s Range Rover: Plus his picture

Following the arrest of one of its cabin crew at the London Heathrow Airport by the UK Boarder Agency with cocaine, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stormed Arik Air, carrying out extensive searches at various offices including a new model Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle owned by the suspected courier, Chika Egwu Udensi.

We gathered that after their search which lasted for a while last night, the operatives were seen taking away some items from the Arik Air, Ikeja, Lagos Headquarters.

Udensi was arrested at the London Heathrow Airport shortly after an Arik Air flight W3101 that departed from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos landed. He was allegedly in possession of 20kg of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

Reacting to the arrest, spokesman for Arik Air, Mr. Banji Ola, who confirmed the incident had stated “A member of Arik Air cabin crew was on Monday night arrested at Heathrow Airport London by the UK Border Force in connection with alleged possession of items suspected to be banned substances”.

He disclosed that the airline was presently carrying out its private investigation to determine how the cabin crew member came about the suspected banned substance, adding that the airline would also be cooperating fully with the UK authorities and other appropriate agencies in their investigations.

“The airline again reaffirms its commitment to the fight against drug and illicit substances trafficking and will not tolerate the use of any of its aircraft or crew for the courier of banned items and substances”.

He reiterated that the carrier carries out very stringent checks on all members of staff and its travelling guests ahead of all flights, noting that the airline will continue to focus its attention on measures to prevent the possibility of any future similar incidents. “Arik Air is a responsible Nigerian company; always seeking to maintain and uphold the integrity and proud reputation of the nation”, he added.
