Military Will Retake Captured Territories – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday assured the nation that the Boko Haram insurgency will soon be over going by the briefings from military authority, insisting that the military will retake areas captured by the Boko Haram sect.

Jonathan, who paid an unexpected visit to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, gave this assurance during a visit to victims of Baga attack who were accommodated at an IDPs camp at the Teachers Village.

He said briefings from the service chiefs show that the 10 local government areas under Boko Haram control will soon be recaptured by the Nigerian military.

“Let me assured you that we will soon take over all the areas. From the briefing I have received from the service chiefs, I assure you we will take over the towns and communities,” the president said during the surprise visit. He also promised the IDPs that they will go back to their various communities soon.

Addressing officers and men of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army at the Maimalari Cantonment, Jonathan said the military is now better equipped to counter Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast states than before.

“The Nigerian military is now better off in term of equipment than it was in the past. We will continue to do our best to ensure the armed forces are better equipped,” he said.
