Jonathan’s Campaign Hits Akwa Ibom State (With Pictures)

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has promised to rehabilitate all federal roads in the country, especially the Aba-Calabar road, if re-elected power next month.

Jonathan made this known yesterday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, during the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) presidential campaign rally held at the state stadium.

The President, who promised to review the status of the Maritime Academy in Oron, also promised that the Ibaka Deep Seaport would become a reality if he were returned to power.

Jonathan, who called for a change in the positive direction, maintained that his administration believed that Nigeria must grow and move forward in positive direction.

He explained that his administration gave state governments the free hand to spend the states’ funds on the states, adding that all PDP states have a state-owned university.

Earlier, the wife of the President, Dame Patience, called on women to vote for he husband, whose administration, she assured, would give women 50 per cent of the appointive positions re-elected.

On his part, Akwa Ibom State Governor and Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio, said the state would give the president 1.67million votes in the election, maintaining that Nigeria would move forward if Jonathan returned to power in next month’s elections.

One of the high points of the afternoon was the presentation of the Gubernatorial flag to Mr. Udom Emmanuel who received a massive cheer from supporters at the  packed-to-capacity Akwa Ibom International Stadium.
In his speech shortly after, Mr. Emmanuel reassured the President that there was no opposition to his presidency in the state.
“Mr. President,  did you find any billboards of any other party during your drive from the airport to this venue? He asked rhetorically.
“The opposition is non existent,  you are our brother and have done well so you deserve another term”
On his plans for the people of Akwa Ibom State, he said he will consolidate on the excellent work of the Akpabio administration and pay close attention to education, job creation and micro – credit schemes for all.
