Jonathan to attend Omisore’s campaign rally Saturday

Preparatory to the Osun State governorship election next week, President Goodluck Jonathan, his Vice, Namadi Sambo, and the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu are expected at a mega rally in support of the party’s candidate at the poll- Iyiola Omisore.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, ahead of the rally slated for the Osogbo Sports Stadium tomorrow, Saturday August 2, 2014, chairman, Publicity Committee of the visit, Prince Bola Ajao, said all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a hitch-free visit and successful.

Ajao said President Jonathan and his entourage would arrive Osogbo for the grand finale of the party’s governorship candidate, Omisore, after visiting the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

Asked to comment on the large presence of security personnel in the state since Wednesday, Ajao said, “it is normal for every government at the centre to provide adequate security for its citizens, but if it is for the sake of the August 9 governorship election, all is well”.

Meanwhile, Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, believes Omisore will emerge victorious at the coming election, as he (Fayose) has anointed him the Osun governor-elect.

He spoke on Wednesday evening at a PDP campaign rally in Ife, in front of the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, attended by the PDP National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo; state Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa; former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; and Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee, PDP, South West, Buruji Kashamu.

The entourage visited the Ooni of Ife, who directed dozens of Obas, who were at the palace, to pray for Omisore, and his running mate, Adejare Bello.

Addressing the crowd, Fayose urged the people to vote massively for Omisore the way Ekiti people voted him, adding that the PDP was out to liberate the South-West from the hands of the All Progressives Congress.

Fayose said, “today, in Ile-Ife, by the powers conferred on me as the governor-elect of Ekiti State, I hereby anoint, support and confirm Omisore as the governor-elect of Osun State.”

Earlier, Oladipo said the response the party got in Ife and other parts of the state portrays Omisore as “a good politician, who has consistently oiled his structure and added that history has come a full cycle,” indicating that it was time for the PDP candidate to be elected governor.

“Omisore has only nine days to becoming governor-elect of this state,” he said.

On his part, Fani-Kayode used the platform to continue his association of the APC with the Boko Haram sect.

He told the people of Ife to come on election day and vote the APC out, saying “we don’t want Boko Haram party”.

While speaking at the Ooni’s palace, Olaoluwa asked the monarch to support the PDP to eject the APC from power in the state, reminding him that the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had denigrated him and some other Obas by saying he (Tinubu) recognised only the Oba of Lagos, and two others Obas.

Also addressing Oba Sijuwade, Omisore: “We’ve gone to every ward and every community in this state and the reception we have received in all these places have been unparalleled and unprecedented. Most of the monarchs we have met believe in our cause. They believe this is a movement and that this is time for change in Osun State.

“My candidacy in this election is in the hands of God. It is the work of God and whoever stands in the way of God does that to his own peril. Because God is not a man who needs to be advised.”
