Emir of Kano in more palaver as Assembly probes N4billion expenditure

The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday constituted an eight-man ad hoc committee to probe the allegations leveled against Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
The committee is saddled with the responsibility of finding out whether or not the Kano monarch is guilty of committing the eight crimes labeled against him. The royal father has been accused of mismanaging N4 billion he inherited from his predecessor, the late Ado Bayero. But the palace has denied the allegation, insisting that the allegation was baseless and unfounded.
The lawmakers’ decision to probe the royal father began when a member representing Nasarawa constituency of the state, Hon. Ibrahim Gama, moved a motion of urgent public importance. Gama also stated that some of the allegations against Sanusi ought to be discussed in the Assembly.
He listed some of the allegations to include alleged spending of funds without the approval of Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, attacking the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and sending his daughter to represent him without wearing full traditional regalia.
Gama also alleged that the emir, sometimes this year, accused the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the entire members of the Kano State House of Assembly of mismanaging the resources of the state when the latter were on official visit to China.
The Assembly later adopted the motion after it was put to voice vote by the Speaker, Alhassan Rurum. The Assembly therefore resolved that the eight-man committee should be chaired by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Labaran Abdul Madari. The committee is expected to report back to the Assembly in two weeks for further legislative action.
