Dogara offered a key post to one of Gbajabiamila’s strongest loyalists; now the man’s tune has changed

At the peak of the crisis in the house of Representatives when lawmakers openly fought on the floor of the House, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, was the supporter of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who climbed a table in front of the speaker Yakubu Dogara and warned him to accept the party’s position.

Ado-Doguwa, a Kano Rep, was a strong supporter of Gbajabiamila and has always insisted that the position of the APC on those who should occupy principal offices should be accepted. The party also forwarded his name to the speaker as the man who should become deputy majority leader while Gbajabiamila becomes the majority leader.

However the speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara who rejected the party’s list, has now offered Ado-Doguwa the position of majority leader, bypassing Gbajabiamila.

Suddenly, the vocal Ado-Doguwa is now singing a different tune.

On Wednesday, he said that he considered the offer made to him to become the Majority Leader of the House as a possible solution to the never ending leadership tussle.

Ado-Doguwa spoke with The Punch newspaper and said: “I consider this offer good if it is genuine; the Speaker (Yakubu Dogara) has given the assurances that he is ready for peace to prevail in the House.

“This offer, to my mind, is a good gesture and we can work with it – given the assurances by the Speaker.”

Ado-Doguwa spoke exclusively with The PUNCH at the National Assembly in Abuja.

He said that even though the party has not met to consider the offer, he considered it a good offer which should be considered.

“I am just expressing my own view on this matter; that we have to accept this offer so that we can move ahead. I believe that the general opinion of Nigerians is that this crisis has dragged on for too long and we should end it and allow the government to move on,” Ado-Doguwa added.

There are reports that Ado-Doguwa has met with Speaker Dogara twice and has been prevailed upon to accept the offer.
