Borno Deputy Governor’s final hours…APC, Senate President Mourn


The 46 year-old Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, was on an official assignment in neighbouring Adamwa State and slept on Friday night and did not wake up on Saturday morning !

This is the official position of the State Government in statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Jidda Shuwa.

He said Mr. Mustapha died in his sleep Saturday morning while visiting Yola, the Adamawa State capital, to attend the convocation ceremony of Modibbo Adama University of Science and Technology, Yola.

He added “His Excellency, Hon. Kashim Shettima, the Executive Governor of Borno State, expresses his heartfelt condolence to the family of the Deputy Governor and the entire people of Borno State for the irreparable loss and appealed for prayers for the repose of the soul of our late Deputy Governor”.

His remains were returned to Government House for a session of prayers after which he was buried in the presence of family and friends.

Meanwhile the All Progressives Party (APC) has expressed huge shock over the death of the Deputy Governor and has described Mustapha’s demise as a huge loss to his family, party, state and indeed to Nigeria.

According to its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, “The suddenness of Mustapha’s passing has deepened the pain caused by his death. We are praying that God would comfort his family and give them the fortitude to bear their irreparable loss”.

The APC also commiserated with the people and prayed that God would grant repose to his soul.

Also the Senate President, in a statement, commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, the Governor and people of Borno State and prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the sad incident.
