APC House Of Reps Candidate Drags INEC To Court

Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Akeem Bello representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2 has dragged to court, the Independent National Electoral Commission-INEC and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming March 9th, 2019 House of Representatives election, one Wale Rauf for omitting his name as the APC flagbearer.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos south west Nigeria has ordered that all defendants in the suit filed by the Lagos lawmaker, Akeem Bello challenging the candidacy of one Wale Rauf as the candidate of All Progressive Congress APC in the forthcoming House of Assembly election should be served court processes.

The presiding judge in the suit, Justice Ayotunde Faji has adjourned the matter till 7th of March 2019 for definite hearing. Apart from Wale Rauf, others joined as co-respondents are Independent Electoral commission INEC and All Progressives Congress-APC.

In an affidavit sworn to by Mr. Akeem Bello and filed before the court by a Lagos lawyer Barrister Wahab Shittu, the lawmaker averred that Wale Rauf was among those that contested the Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2 primary election with, and which he, Akeem won with a wide margin.

Following his victory at the primary elections, Akeem’s name was published by All Progressive Congress as the candidate of the Party for the Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2 before his name was later wrongly replaced with Rauf’s.

Mr. Bello averred further that inspite of the result of the Primary election which he won, Wale Rauf’s name was wrongly forwarded to Independent Electoral Commission- as the candidate of the APC.

Upon his protest of this development and after consultations with the APC Lagos Stakeholders, Wale Rauf was magnanimous enough to write a letter of voluntary withdrawal dated 30th November, 2018 to the National Chairman of INEC to make amend for the mistake.

And to his surprise and despite Rauf ‘s withdrawal letter, INEC has since refused to make amend by substituting his name as the party’s authentic APC candidate.

In what looks like a deliberate move to sabotage his political dream, INEC has also ignored a formal letter, dated 3rd December, 2018 and signed by the Chariman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole re-affirming his name and choice as the authentic candidate to be effected within 45 days as lawfully directed by the Electoral Act but and INEC has willfully refused to do so.

In view of the aforementioned scenario, Hon. Akeem Bello is now urging the court to order INEC to accept and treat him as the lawful candidate of APC for Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2 Lagos State in the up coming Lagos State House of Assembly election. Bello is also urging the court to issue order of injunction restraining Wale Rauf from parading himself as the candidate of APC Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2, Lagos state in the up coming house Assembly Elections in Lagos State. The defendants have not filed any defence
