APC changes position “Saraki was duly elected”-Oyegun

It seems the ruling All Progressives’ Congress ( APC) has made a rethink on its opposition of the emergence of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as Nigeria’s Senate President.

The indication of this change in the party’s stand was given by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun who told journalists that the party has now accepted Senator Saraki because the reality was that he was duly elected by his colleagues.

Chief Odigie-Oyegun who spoke at the Defence House, shortly before joining members of the Transition Committee, who had come to present their report to President Muhammadu Buhari. revealed that party chiefs were already speaking with Saraki and the matter will be resolved soon without much fanfare.

According a report by CoreTV News, Oyegun stated when asked of Saraki’s election “Of course. he has been duly elected by his colleagues. We have a reality and we have to live with it”

Regarding a scheduled meeting with the new Senate President which was to hold yesterday  but was cancelled,  he revealed “Nothing went wrong, there were lots of consultations and you can’t be at two places  at the same time. It was not comfortable for us, but we have been talking. Everything is being put in proper perspective”

Chief Odigie-Oyegun was confident that the party will overcome the current crisis, and “we are coming out stronger”

Before this about turn, the APC, through its Spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had indicated that since Senate President Saraki and Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara were not the selected candidates of the party, they will not be recognised, but now, it seems he spoke too early and has been overruled by the party’s National Chairman.
