83 Senators pass a vote of confidence on Saraki

Despite all the hullabaloo and speculations, it seems Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki seems to have the firm support of majority of his colleagues on the floor.

This was exhibited firmly when 83 of them openly passed a  vote of confidence on his leadership-a move that did not go down well with the anti-Saraki forces in the Senate.

The motion for the Vote of Confidence was read by Senator David Umar, Niger East. Umar said the Nigerian Constitution guaranteed separation of powers and condemned what he termed as  “ongoing unwarranted media embarrassment of the Senate and the Senate leadership”.He urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used to harass or intimidate the Senate leadership.

The motion was supported by Senator Sani Yerima, from Zamfara State, who affirmed that Senators will continue to support its leadership and decried the attempt by external forces to control the legislative body.

According to him “Anybody outside this chamber who wants to control the Senate should go and sleep. It was after that a voice vote was taken and the Ayes had it!

It must be said that Sen. Kabir Marafa, protested the reading of the motion while Senator Babajide Omoworare asked that his name be expunged from the list of Senators as he was unaware of the motion before despite being the Chairman, Committee on Business and Rules.
