Anger over Fashola’s N78.3m website contract

How much does it cost to build and manage a website? Well, Nigerians believe that it certainly would not be worth N78.3m! This was the amount that former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola paid for his personal website www.tundefashola.com with Lagos tax payers money-and many are crying foul.

As soon as watchdog, BudIT published its findings, twitter was agog with derisive and angry comments branding the budget for this website as outrageous and grossly over inflated. The contract was awarded in 2014 to a company called  Info Access Plus Limited.

One commentator wrote ” N78m for a website?who is the contractor?Julius Berger or Dantata & Sawoe”

Tolu Ogunlesi wrote ” How can you build a WordPress website for 78 million naira? Are you mad? Or am I the mad one for thinking you might be mad?

Toyan Adeniji-Adele  stated “makes those of us that build websites for a living feel cheated. It takes at least 30 sites to do that, they did just 1”

Damocleansword wrote “Fashola take 78 million build website tori Olorun!”

Gently_1 wrote “how exactly is that amount for a website justifiable? Even Facebook didn’t cost that much to build”
