Amaechi, Wike Clash again..Policeman wounded

Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike  had a class today in the capital Port Harcourt.

Already both sides have begun to trade blames for the melee where a Police man was allegedly beaten and disarmed by security men attached  to the Governor.

Amaechi said he was coming from the airport and typically, he leads the convoy. Thus, when he got to the Trans Amadi intersection, two of his vehicles – police and DSS – moved ahead of him to stop other vehicles to pave the right of way for him. This, the two vehicles did successfully and proceeded. As Amaechi moved to join them and continue, a dispatch rider appeared from no where, blocked him and hit his window repeatedly, thinking it was an ordinary vehicle. Realising it was bulletproof, he succeeded in breaking the mirror on his side. At that point, Amaechi’s aides rushed down and surprisingly, did nothing but resolved the situation before it degenerated further.

Amaechi said attempt by him to come out of the car was rebuffed by his aides. He said as he eventually left the scene, he was shocked to hear later that Wike blocked the last security vehicle in his fleet, dragged out the policeman in it, beat him up to a pulp and seized his gun. He is sending me pictures of this shortly. In fact, he said if he knew Wike’s convoy was coming, he would have parked and let him go because he knew he’d always wanted to make trouble where none exists.

But the Governor said it was an assassination attempt because he was attacked by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad and soldiers of the Nigerian Army in the motorcade of the Minister.

The governor said he was on project inspection when they were attacked at Nwanja Junction on Trans-Amadi Road.

The SARs Personnel and Soldiers in the Minister’s convoy hit down the Governor’s Escort Rider and attacked the policemen in the pilot car.
Mr Debewari , Aide -De- Camp, to the Minister of Transportation,  Rotimi Amaechi, supervised the attack, which included damage of cameras held by journalists .
Also part of the attack, was the Commander of Rivers SARS, Mr Akin Fakorede who received the Minister of Transportation at the Port Harcourt International Airport and accompanied on his trip.
Governor Wike was not harmed, despite the attack.
