A’Ibom breaks ground for new transmission substation


Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr. Udom Emanuel says his administration remains committed to making the state a major industrial hub by providing necessary infrastructure and a conducive business climate for investors to carry out their businesses.

Governor Emmanuel stated this during the Ground breakng for the construction of a 132/33kv,1*30MvA Transmission Sub Station at Ekim, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area .

Governor Emmanuel stated that power supply is essential to the social and economic life of the people and the overall development of the state and assured of uninterrupted power supply Mkpat Enin, Onna, Ikot Abasi, Eastern Obolo and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas on completion of the 132-33 KVA Transmission sub-station.

The Governor commended youths of Ekim Community for their supportive role towards the citing of the project and directed that preference be given to youths of the area in the recruitment of direct labour personnel for the project.

He charged youths of the Community to complement government’s effort in realising the administration’s agenda of providing improved life to the people by protecting the sub station from vandalisation “I want to charge the youths to protect this project from vandals, this is our asset and if you don’t protect it, we will not be able to attain the development  agenda  of  this  administration and meet up with the developed world”.

Governor Emmanuel congratulated the Special Assistant on Power Engr. Meyen Etukudo and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their determination to ensure that there is a stable electricity in the state .

While assuring that construction of Awa- Ukam Road was on course, he called on the people to pray for more resources to pursue all the earmarked programmes adding that that once the Coconut Refinery Project is completed coconut farmers would have high returns on their investment.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power Engr.Meyen Etukudoh said that the project as envisaged would attract more  investors to the state and congratulated the Governor for the vision.

On her part the Transition Committee Chairman for Mkpat Enin Local Government Area Lady Ekaette Usip expressed gratitude to Governor Emmanuel for the choice of Mkpat Enin for the project and assured of youths preparedness to cooperate with the contractors and to protect the facilities.
